NOW IN THE FOURTH YEAR, SATURDAY ART WORKSHOPS, ARTS LIFE, ARE INTERACTIVE, HANDS-ON WORKSHOPS DESIGNED TO 

GIVE STUDENTS AN EXPERIENCE IN A VARIETY OF ARTS TOPICS.

 

WORKSHOPS GEARED FOR AGES 8 - 14

 

SECOND & FOURTH SATURDAYS* OF THE MONTH/ FEBRUARY - JUNE 2018,  1 PM - 4 PM

 

WORKSHOPS ARE $25 EACH OR $100 FOR FIVE* 

 

WORKSHOPS HELD AT LEARNING OPTIONS, INC. IN FAIRMONT, WV AND HARRISON COUNTY SCHOOLS STEAM ANNEX IN CLARKSBURG, WV

 

*MAY WORKSHOP FOR HARRISON COUNTY IS THIRD SATURDAY DUE TO HOLIDAY WEEKEND.

*MUST PURCHASE 5 5 CLASSES AT ONCE TO RECEIVE DISCOUNT - YOU MAY MIX AND MATCH BETWEEN THE 2 LOCATIONS.

REGISTRATION IS CONSIDERED COMPLETE WHEN TUITION IS PAID IN FULL

ArtsLife Workshops 2018

 

February 10 – ANCIENT ART *Marion County

Instructor: Elizabeth Sorensen, BFA Studio Art, MALCM

Participants will study artwork created by the Mesopotamians living in the 9th-7th century B.C. and discuss how they used symbolism in their artwork to convey messages to palace visitors. Using mixed media, participants will design superhumans to protect their own palaces.

 

February 24 - ART JOURNAL/SKETCHBOOK *Harrison County 

Instructor: Sandra Cress

Using bookmaking techniques, participants will build their own sketchbook, creating art activities throughout, using a variety of paper types.

 

March 10 - SET MAKING *Marion County

Instructor: Cricket Hall, BA in Theater

Use the basics and elements of design to create a set for a play. Participants will use ideas, research, and hands-on techniques, including scale drawings to design a set for a contemporary one-act play. 

 

March 24 - SET MAKING *Harrison County

Instructor: Cricket Hall, BA in Theater

April 14  - STAGE & COSTUME MAKE-UP *Marion County

Instructor: Albani St. Martin-Brown, Make-Up Designer for BHS

Participants will explore hills and valleys, light and dark, shapes and colors….and all on their face. The characters, creatures, and possibilities are endless. Make-up can be the start of a great adventure!

 

April 28  - STAGE & COSTUME MAKE-UP *Harrison County

Instructor: Albani St. Martin-Brown, Make-Up Designer for BHS

May 12 -  ABSTRACT COLLAGE-RELIEF SCULPTURES *Marion County

Instructor: Sandra Cress

Participants will make a sculptural piece of art that is the equivalent of a 3-D scrapbook that also serves as a hanging work of art.

June 9  - ABSTRACT WATERCOLORS *Marion County

Instructor: Beth Carter, BA Art Structure & Applied Design

Students will learn simple watercolor brush strokes and paint techniques and turn them into large, colorful, blended patterns and motifs. We will explore color theory and choose limited color pallets for our projects. The class will explore where this type of painting is used in marketing and product branding and how artists turn their pieces into digital art.
