HANDS-ON WORKSHOPS DESIGNED TO SPARK STUDENTS' INTERESTS
IN VARIOUS STEM FIELDS.
WORKSHOPS GEARED FOR AGES 8 - 14
SECOND & FOURTH SATURDAYS OF THE MONTH*/ FEBRUARY - JUNE 2019, 9 AM - 12 NOON
WORKSHOPS ARE $25 EACH OR $100 FOR FIVE*
WORKSHOPS HELD AT LEARNING OPTIONS, INC. IN FAIRMONT, WV AND HARRISON COUNTY SCHOOLS STEAM ANNEX IN CLARKSBURG, WV
*MAY WORKSHOP FOR HARRISON COUNTY IS THIRD SATURDAY DUE TO HOLIDAY WEEKEND.
*MUST PURCHASE 5 CLASSES AT ONCE TO RECEIVE DISCOUNT - MAY MIX AND MATCH BETWEEN LOCATIONS.

You have been given the task of protecting a valued treasure. Set up motion sensors hooked to a Raspberry Pi, and see if your design and programming skills can capture an intruder.
March 24 – OZOBOT ADVENTURES *Harrison County

Can you help Ozobot find its way home through the forest and across the ravine? Learn Ozobot’s colorful language so you can guide this cute little robot and help it use special talents along the way.
April 14 - WHAT HAPPENS IN THE EMERGENCY ROOM-AND HOW TO AVOID IT *Marion County
Instructor: Patricia LeBlanc, RN
Join an RN with 40 years of nursing experience, mostly in critical care, for a hands-on session on how to make the initial assessment of patients when they are brought into a rural emergency room. Learn about common accidents, illnesses, and triage measures as you take turns role-playing the healthcare provider and the patient.

May 12 - CLINICAL CHEMISTRY CHALLENGE: What is wrong with the patient? *Marion County

Our bodies are amazing, but how do we find out what is wrong when a person is sick? Learn how clinical chemists analyze color changes in samples to detect disease. Can you mix, measure, observe and graph carefully enough to help diagnose the patient?

June 9 - INCREDIBLE FLEXIBLE FOAMS *Marion County
Instructor: Lorenzo Garcia & Gabi Hamner, Stockmeier Urethanes
Learn how polymer scientists design materials for special purposes, like firefighter helmets and memory foam mattresses. You will make a solid foam and do some testing on real polyurethane samples.
